With the Lakers solving the teamwork problem and Kobe Bryant being a more than capable leader of the young and aggressive Los Angeles Lakers. The 2008 Western Conference Champions looks like they will go all the way. Being it that a few months back they had a very predictable offense while Kobe Bryant was fighting tooth and nail to get traded, the Los Angeles Lakers did the impossible in getting their key to success. Getting Pao Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies was more of a donation rather than getting the most out of a player who helped beat team
Never in a lifetime and not a single solitary second would anyone with a decent frame of mind think that in any case the Pao Gasol trade was fair. With all due respect to Kwame Brown, it was the most lop-sided and inappropriate trade ever made in NBA history.
The Centers Matchup would involve Pao Gasol who would be opposed by the young yet hard as an Oak Tree Kendrick Perkins. First and foremost the Los Angeles Lakers would not be in this position if not for the mockery of a trade for Pao Gasol. With that being said it would be an insult of this matchup goes the way of the Boston Celtics. Pao Gasol is considered as one of the best passing big man in the NBA. Although one weakness that the Spaniard might have against Kendrick Perkins would be that he can and has been pushed around by other centers. The Edge in this part of the court would go the way of the Los Angeles Lakers.
As for the frontcourt matchups, the Boston Celtics duo of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce are set to go head to head against Lamar Odom and Vladimir Radmanovic. This I guess is common knowledge that the Boston Celtics have a huge edge over the Los Angeles Lakers in this one. No matter how versatile Lamar Odom is, Kevin Garnett skill wise pound for pound has a ton of difference. Even if Lamar Odom manages to put the clamps on the “Big Ticket” it is the Paul Pierce and Vladimir Radmanovic matchup that Phil Jackson has nightmares about. Who wouldn’t? Especially when you pit a player who has the foot speed of a cow against a perennial all star that can score on many different occasions, nightmares are bound to happen.
The Backcourt offense is also another lopsided matchup however this time it goes the Los Angeles Lakers’ way. Ray Allen is close to being considered as washed up while Rajon Rondo despite his raw athleticism and tenacity is as inconsistent as things can get. While Kobe Bryant and Ray Allen had minor altercations in the past, what’s done is done and both of these players are sure to take it to the next level when the 2008 NBA Finals begin. While the offensive prowess of Ray Allen is nothing to be taken lightly, it is his defense that he is known not to have that serves as an even bigger head ache for Doc Rivers.
Coaching wise the Los Angeles Lakers have more than an edge in this factor. Phil Jackson if by the end of this 2008 NBA Finals guide the Los Angeles Lakers to the championship trophy, then Phil Jackson would be the epitome of what a true basketball coach is. Doc Rivers may be this year’s Coach of the year however what may be considered the factor why people have a liking to the Los Angeles Lakers is that Phil Jackson only lacks one finger that does not have a ring.
Lastly the bench matchups are also in favor of the Los Angeles Lakers as the Boston Celtics’ bench features all the playoff experience you can possibly have. Although with experience so comes age. The youthful Los Angeles Lakers bench tries to keep the opponent on an up tempo ballgame where most of the opponents staggered.
