Brandon Rush scored 16 points and Russell Robinson had 15 points to lead the Kansas Jayhawks in their attack. The Jayhawks (34-3) will be a huge favorite to end 10th-seeded Davidson’s stay in the NCAA tournament and advance to the Final Four for the first time since 2003.

Villanova Wildcats (22-13) had to know the night was doomed when star guard Scottie Reynolds shot an airball and missed another try on the opening possession of the game.

Villanova Wildcats simply could not keep up with Kansas’ speed, size and athletic ability at the other end of the court. “The 3s hurt us early,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said. “When a team that good is making those kind of shots, it is going to be tough. I didn’t think we were that bad defensively in the first half, they are just a very good team that is playing very well right now.”

In the Southern Region of the 2007-2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Texas Longhorns beat Stanford Cardinal in a blowout 82-62 to advance to the Southern Regional Finals.

D.J. Augustin of Texas Longhorns had a monster game he scored 23 points added seven assists and five rebounds while his teammates Damion James scored 18 points, A.J. Abrams added 12 and Justin Mason had seven points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Texas Longhorns will play top-seeded Memphis on Sunday. The Memphis Tigers beat Michigan State Spartans in a rout 92-74.

Freshman Derrick Rose paced the Tigers with a 27-point, five-assist night. Derrick Rose exited early in the second half with a cut on his forehead that required medical attention, but returned to the floor with 8 1/2 minutes left and started dominating again.

“Everyone picked us to lose. We were the upset special,” Memphis coach John Calipari said. “That was us. We were going to get outplayed, outcoached, outskilled, outhustled, out-this, out-that, and we can’t shoot free throws.”
