Fate smiled on the Dallas Cowboys last week as everything came together to give the Cowboys control of their playoff destiny this week as they visit the Philadelphia Eagles. With a win, the Cowboys will clinch the final Wild Card spot in the NFC. The Eagles can still make the playoffs with a win but they need a lot of help. SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking Dallas Cowboys on the Road.
Dallas lost 33-24 last week to Baltimore in the final game at Texas Stadium. “It’s all just part of a full season,” quarterback Tony Romo said. “We’ve got to find a way to grind it out and get into the tournament. If you get in, you have a chance. It’s a matter of doing the things it takes to get you in position.” The problem for Dallas is that they just can’t win when it matters most. They haven’t had a winning month of December in 12 years and they have lost their last five December games against the Eagles.
The Cowboys will have to find a way to score points this week if they expect to win. They will be facing an Eagles defense that is third in the NFL. “I wish I could put a finger on what it is that’s causing us to let it slip like we have. But I can’t,” tight end Jason Witten said. “Obviously you get excited if (playoffs hopes remain alive), but it’s bigger than that. We’ve got to figure out a way to play better football because this isn’t going to cut it.”
The Eagles struggled last week offensively, scoring just three points against Washington in a game that could have put them in great shape to make the playoffs. Now they need to defeat Dallas and get some help. They need a win over the Cowboys and a Tampa Bay loss to Oakland and either a Minnesota or Chicago loss. It seems unlikely the Bucs will lose to a poor Raiders team so the Eagles may have nothing to play for when this game kicks off.
