Chad Pennington and the Miami Dolphins are one victory away from winning the AFC East and it is only fitting that the game would be in New York against Pennington’s old team the New York Jets and against the quarterback who replaced him, Brett Favre. “This is the only way fate would have it, right?” Pennington said, “I just don’t think it would happen any other way. There wouldn’t be any other scenario. This is how sports works.” SBG Global reports that early NFL betting has the public taking New York Jets at Home.
The Dolphins can win the AFC East with a victory just a year after going 1-15. It has been an unbelievable turnaround under vice president Bill Parcells and head coach Tony Sparano. Leading the way for the Dolphins has been Pennington who was cast aside by the Jets for Favre. That decision doesn’t look very good now since Pennington’s Dolphins can clinch the division with a win while Favre’s Jets have collapsed and now need help to make the playoffs.
The Jets have lost three of their last four games and Favre has not played well. “I’m disappointed, as everyone else in this building is disappointed,” Favre said, “The opportunities that were presented to us, we couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity. I’m disappointed because we didn’t capitalize on that, as our fans are, as everyone else is.”
The Jets can still make the playoffs but they need to beat the Dolphins and have Buffalo upset New England. They could also make the playoffs as a Wild Card if they win and Baltimore loses at home against Jacksonville.
New York won the first matchup between the two teams 20-14 but Pennington nearly led the Dolphins to the game winning touchdown in the final seconds. “They did what they had to do in terms of making the plays,” Dolphins cornerback Andre Goodman said about that first game. “You take away a couple plays in that game and we’re on top of that game.”
Here are the NFL betting stats for Sunday’s game. The Dolphins are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a road underdog. The Dolphins are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. the AFC. The Dolphins are 1-7-2 ATS in their last 10 meetings in New York
The Jets are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. the AFC East. The Jets are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite.
